Description
This Coral Firefly, a Vincent Bell Signature Design and a rare red beauty, is in good condition for its age. This guitar has all the great features of the Coral Firefly line: genuine Brazilian rosewood head and fretboard; exclusive slim, never-warp neck reinforced by dual steel beams that never need adjustment; simple string action adjustment at neck socket for easy selective action; double cutaway hollow body, arched spruce top with English maple back and sides; polished trapeze style “C” logo’d tailpiece with separate Brazilian rosewood bridge; two lipstick tube pickups with polished stainless steel surrounds; lower body edge input location with polished stainless steel large rectangular plate. Coral Firefly bodies were made in Japan (from 1967-1969) then sent back to New Jersey where the electronics and necks were installed. This particular guitar has a really low, fast action and a great sound. It plays really well, sounds terrific and looks beautiful. Do not miss the opportunity to own this rare, red, rockin’ piece of sonic history.Description from VintageSilvertones.com
CONDITION:
This guitar is in good condition for its 50+ years of existence. Nice, clean finish with only a very few minor finish cracks (crazing) on front and back of the body. There are two small cracks near the neck pickup but that has no affect on the playability or sound of the guitar and it’s barely noticeable. The original wooden bridge and “C” logo’d trapeze stop tail bar are still in good condition. The original pickguard has been removed and two grommets have been replaced on tuners/headstock.
TUNERS:
Open back 6 inline tuners with plastic buttons in very good working order. Two of the grommets have been replaced on the tuning shafts. It’s possible these tuners are replacements. Some of these red Danelectro Fireflys have skate-key tuners.Description from VintageSilvertones.com
NECK:
Bolt-on, straight neck with dot inlays on a rosewood fretboard, 21 frets, and 25″ scale. Frets are in very good condition with no visible wear. The back of the neck has no playing wear. There is minor paint wear near the fretboard. The 1967 In-Line Style 3 Danelectro headstock has some paint wear on the edges and a slight hairline split near the tuners, as you can see in the photograph, which had no effect on the tuning, sound and playability. The action is super fast and the fretboard feels fantastic under the fingers. Description from VintageSilvertones.com
PICKUPS:
Two single-coil lipstick tube style pickups with polished stainless steel surrounds are potent and in good working order. The neck pickup is good and loud with a smooth, clean rock, blues tones. The bridge pickup is twangy with a country, blues tone and a bit of bite. Both pickups together are clear and loud because of the parallel as opposed to series wiring. One volume and one tone control for each pickup and a three way toggle switch for pickup selection. A wide variety of tones can be achieved depending on the settings. The tone control for the bridge pickup is unusual and gives a completely different tone when turned all the way down. All the electronics are in proper working order.
