Description
This is a super, clean, 1955 Supro RANCHERO guitar made by National/Supro/Valco. This is the earliest version of the Ranchero. Supro used the Ranchero name for guitars from the 1950s (possibly late 1940s) to the 1960s with various configurations. It will make an excellent addition to any collection. The pickup sounds amazing and is very strong. The tone control gives a nice range of raw to smooth/jazzy. The electronics all work correctly and are mounted directly onto the pickguard. This Supro Ranchero is an off-white (cream-colored white-neck detail photos are the most accurate color representation) translucent (the tiger-stripe woodgrain can be seen in the body, neck, and headstock), hollow body guitar with a fully bound body, 19 fret neck, plastic nut, and a single-coil pickup. The Supro logo is on a stamped brass plate with the Supro logo in blue. It’s 100% original and practically new-old-stock. It must have not been played much over the years. Newer hard shell case.Description from VintageSilvertones.com
CONDITION:
This guitar is 100% original and in very good+ condition. It has only minor playing wear around the headstock but overall extremely clean for a 65+ year old guitar. The action is high and the neck is not perfect. So it’s more of a collectors guitar. But, it’s really fun to play and works fine. But, it’s not going to be a guitar one shreds on. It’ll be great for Cowboy Cords! There’s lots of photos to show all the details.
TUNERS:
The 3×3 Kluson Deluxe tuners with white plastic buttons, are in good working condition. But, clearly, the plastic tips on tuners are starting to get old. So if you want to play it regularly, it’s probably best to swap out a new set of tuners.Description from VintageSilvertones.com
NECK:
The “baseball bat” neck is absolutely playable but is not perfectly straight, glued-on neck with white plastic, circular inlays on a rosewood fretboard, a plastic nut, 19 frets, 25 3/4″ scale with medium-high action. The action gets a bit high after the 5th fret. There’s minor wear on sides of the neck near the headstock; which looks more like paint flaking off rather than playing wear. The headstock, features a blue SUPRO logo on a brass plate which is screwed on to the headstock. The headstock has very minor wear on the top and a few spots around the edges.Description from VintageSilvertones.com
PICKUPS:
There is one plastic covered, single-coil pickup, with adjustable pole pieces on a white plate. The jack and all electronics are mounted on the pickguard. The jack is an older screw on and the guitar comes with the original cord; which works fine. The single-coil pickup is very strong, bright and clear with a twangy, quality and a smooth tone with the tone control is turned all the way down. There are two, white plastic knobs: one for volume and the other for tone. All the electronics are in proper working order. Description from VintageSilvertones.com
