SILVERTONE MODEL: JUPITER - 1423L
STRATOTONE - HARMONY

circa 1962

Silvertone 1423 - Harmony Jupiter 2 DeArmond pickups, black sparkle finish, made in Chicago circa 1962This is an early 1960's Silvertone made by Harmony of Chicago. The body style is similar to a Les Paul. The Jupiter/1423 is the top of Harmony's Stratotone line. It has DeArmond pick ups, beautiful mother-of-pearl block inlays on neck, and the "Blender" control which regulates the bass and treble pick ups. This is more of a players guitar than collectors considering the finish wear. It comes with a good quality gig bag.Description from VintageSilvertones.com

CONDITION:
Very clean, 7.5 out of 10. 100% original (although bridge may be a replacement but it sure looks original including a small bit of rust on the top of one screw.) The finish has quite a bit of paint wear on edge of body along with some minor dings along in addition to general playing wear. The pickguard has faint yellow stains.

TUNERS:
All original, in good working order but D-tuner is slightly bent. Headstock has some paint wear and the finish has dulled slightly.

NECK:
Bolt-on, straight, fully bound (binding has yellowed slightly), mother of pearl inlays on rosewood fretboard, 20 frets, and 25" scale. Frets are in good condition with lots of life left in them. There is playing wear in the fretboard on the first three frets but it doesn't affect playing ability.

PICKUPS:
Two DeArmonds that give a great surf or heavy rock sound but could work for a varity of styles
Neck (bass) pickup is very strong, rich, and loud with a bite
Bridge (treble) pickup is very twangy and loud
Overall, the pickups work and sound excellent. Both together are very jazzy sounding
Individual volume and tone controls for both pickups along with the Blender control and three position pickup selector switch. All electronics work properly.

    Body width: 13 3/8"
