SILVERTONE/KAY MODEL: 1425
circa 1959

Silvertone Kay 1425 2pu electric guitar This is a sweet Silvertone, hollow body, model 1425, electric guitar made for Sears by Kay of Chicago. It has two incredible sounding pickups that range from twangy to smooth. It can be played acoustically or electrically. It's a really nice light guitar that really puts out. The neck is straight and all the electronics work properly. The action is set medium-fast. It plays really well. This is definitely a collectors and/or players guitar. There's a little bit of crazing if you look really close and a couple of minor nicks but overall it's in excellent condition.

The guitar is completely original. The only thing that's been replaced is the rear guitar strap button. I replaced it with a modern, identical to original version. One interesting thing to note is the 1959 Sears catalog has this same guitar but the pickup control is a slider versus the toggle on this model. This guitar is virtually identical to the Kay Pacer model K6550 except the binding/trim in this model is one solid color versus the Pacer's black and white striped trim. It appears that Kay sold these guitars from the mid-late 1950s through the mid-1960s. The picks-up are indicative of that time period.

1959 Sears Catalog listing:

Handsome, dual-pickup cutaway arched model. Beautiful in tone and looks. Gleaming hand-polished finish. Hardwood top with maple back and sides. The slim neck is reinforced with a steel rod. You'll find fingering is easy and more comfortable. The thin body is easier to hold while playing. Two volume and two tone controls--one of each for both pickups. Three-way switch for extra versatility. 42x17 inches.
