This is an extremely rare Silvertone 1359 (Danelectro model: U2), “peanut” (smaller body) electric guitar. It has a tan and ginger simulated leather, vinyl, finish with two lipstick tube-style pickups and a semi-hollow body. It features a four way adjustable, unplated, light weight aluminum bridge with a Brazilian rosewood saddle, a metal nut, a clear plastic pickaguard, a Coke-bottle headstock, concentric volume and tone controls, and original white plastic strap buttons. It was made by Danelectro in Neptune, New Jersey around 1955-56 and it is in fanstastic playing condition especially for an axe that is about sixty year old! The neck is straight with nice fast action. The pickups are as clear and potent as they have ever been and all of the electronics work correctly. This guitar is 100% original. It has general playing wear, minor nicks, and the paint is worn on the back of the neck, but overall, it’s in good shape. This guitar feels great and sounds incredible. It can be used to play a wide variety of styles. If you’re a player or collector this is the guitar you’ve always wanted! It comes with a good quality hard case.Description from VintageSilvertones.com
This guitar is 100% original. It is in good condition and clean for its age. There are only a few scrapes to the ginger vinyl finish on front of the body and a few on the back and along the sides. The tan vinyl binding is in pretty good condition with some minor wear. Overall, it appears as if this guitar has been played but handled very gently and carefully over the sixty some-odd years of its existence. The back cavity cover screw is missing and a screw has been replaced near its edge. This guitar plays beautifully and sounds great!
The tuners, opened-back, 3×2’s with plastic buttons are in very good working condition. They are smooth and hold the tuning well.Description from VintageSilvertones.comiption from VintageSilvertones.com
The neck is in very good shape. It’s a straight, bolt-on neck with dot inlays on a Brazilian rosewood fretboard, 21 frets, and a 25″ scale. There is some minor wear on the first few top frets but that does not effect the playability. The paint on the back of the neck has some playing wear. The Coke-bottle headstock, featuring the horizontal silkscreened logo, has some minor wear along the edges. The neck is kept straight with an aluminum reinforcement rod that extends into the body up to the neck pickup cavity. With its fast action, the neck feels fanstastic under your fingers to play rhythm and lead styles.
The two single coil, lipstick tube-style pickups are very clean, strong and full sounding. The neck pickup has a clear, bright tone perfect for rock, blues, soul or funk. The bridge pickup has a more twangy feel good for funk, folk, rock or country. Using the combination of pickups and tone knobs gives you a wide variety of musical tones from which to choose. There are four concentric pots, one tone stacked on one volume for each pickup. The toggle switch allows you to select the neck, bridge or both pickups. The pots and toggle are clean sounding and in fine working order. Description from VintageSilvertones.com
