SILVERTONE/KAY MODEL: 1425
circa 1959

Silvertone Kay 1425 2pu hollowbody electric guitar This is a sweet Silvertone, red sunburst, hollow body, model 1425, electric guitar made for Sears by Kay of Chicago. It has two single coil pickups that range from twangy to smooth. It also features a hardwood top with maple back and sides. This guitar can be played acoustically or electrically and sounds fantastic both ways. It's a nice light guitar that really puts out. The neck is straight and all the electronics work properly. The action is set fast and it plays really well. This Silvertone feels really good in your hands and sounds amazing. This is definitely a collector's and/or player's guitar. It comes with an original, period correct, high quality hard shell case.

This guitar features a sunburst finish, a raised pickguard with a perimeter stripe and an "S" logo, on white plastic pickgaurd on the bottom, 2 f-holes, two metal, single coil pickups, a four-way adjustable rosewood bridge, a trapeze style tailpiece, four white plastic knobs, a slider-style pickup selector, and white celluloid binding on the neck and body. One interesting thing to note is that the 1959 Sears catalog has this same guitar with the slider pickup control although we have another version here with a the toggle. This guitar is virtually identical to the Kay Pacer model K6550 except the binding/trim in this model is one solid color versus the Pacer's black and white striped trim. It appears that Kay sold these guitars from the mid-late 1950s through the mid-1960s. The pick-ups are indicative of that time period.
